Zaman is a non-profit organization committed to addressing the basic needs and empowerment of marginalized women and children, seniors and those with disabilities. Founded in 1996 and incorporated in 2004 as a 501(c)(3), Zaman has to date assisted more than 240,000 people in Southeast Michigan with food, clothing, furniture, utility assistance, infant burial, and other essential needs. All proceeds from the Run Walk Picnic will be directed to these Michigan-based programs.
In addition to Zaman's Michigan-based programs and through its international activities and partnerships, Zaman has also provided humanitarian relief, disaster response, and access to safe drinking water to an additional 600,000 across the world. Since March 2016, Zaman has operated out of the Hope For Humanity Center, a 40,500-square-foot facility in Inkster that houses its crisis assistance, vocational training and life skills programs.
During 2015 alone, Zaman’s Michigan-based outreach efforts have included:
113,000 pounds of food distributed (rescued from local eateries and delivered as hot meals, packed in monthly food boxes, or given through restaurant vouchers)
Furniture for 150 low-income households
Clothing – including brand new winter coats for 200 children
Utility, rent, mortgage, and emergency shelter assistance
10,000 summer meals for hungry children
345 holiday gifts for children with no other presents
Parenting classes and wellness counseling for 70 at-risk families
The success of Zaman and its continued growth comes from the passion and dedication to the mission shared by team members, volunteers, supporters and community partners.
We hope you will join us as we work to break the cycle of poverty one family at a time.
